So I went to the immigration office today with fear, trepidation and resignation for a ‘long stressful’ day. IT IS a federal office I am going to afterall.! And I should expect anything *Smh You will then understand my utter surprise. Alas! The wind of change in the processes of things at Ikoyi! The ‘Oga’(yes, I saw the Oga at the top) was embracing and accommodating, exhibiting a hands-on approach in dealing with customer’s complaints and delays for their passport delivery. It didn’t matter if you were a VIP or not! He practised an open door policy such that people humbly sought his intervention and he gave it without recourse. At each point in time, he reprimanded and admonished officers in changing their mindset towards deliberately slowing and clogging down processes in the name of “bureaucracy” whilst objectively enlightening customers in understanding the roles they play in “aiding”. He had a CCTV that he used purposefully to monitor the build up of people in his open office, and while I was there, he went out more than twice to enquire what each person desired to have done! I noticed thereafter satisfied customers that would come and say thank you raining down prayers and appreciation. Ha! It was a customer driven environment. The customer was king right before my eyes.
And then the part that blew my mind!! Towards the end of the day, the officers rolled in a table in the middle of his office, placed a lovely birthday cake that read “Happy Birthday Officers”, bottles of wine and nicely wrapped gifts for recipients! Apparently, it was a new tradition with the new Oga, that at the end of every month, all birthdays for that month would be jointly celebrated and they would share a piece of cake and appreciate themselves. I was bowled over and stunned at the same time!! It was in the spirit of this awesomeness that I started clicking and recording. This is LEADERSHIP as I have read in those motivational books. I was experiencing it firsthand.
So I salute the “new oga’ of the Immigration in Ikoyi. The PCI and DCI, Segun Adegoke. #selflessleadership #ethicalleader #nigeriawillbegreatagain
